Glacier projections sensitivity to temperature-index model choices and calibration strategies

چکیده

Abstract The uncertainty of glacier change projections is largely influenced by models. In this study, we focus on temperature-index mass-balance (MB) models and their calibration. Using the Open Global Glacier Model (OGGM), examine influence different surface-type dependent degree-day factors, temporal climate resolutions (daily, monthly) downscaling options (temperature lapse rates, temperature precipitation corrections) for 88 glaciers with in-situ observations. Our findings indicate that higher spatial resolution observations enhance MB gradient representation due to an improved addition distinction in model also improves gradients, but lack independent limits our ability demonstrate added value increased complexity. Some choices have systematic effects, example weaker rates result smaller projected glaciers. However, often find counter balancing such as sensitivity factors snow, firn ice, which depends how accumulation area ratio changes future. Similarly, using daily versus monthly data can affect differently depending shifting balance between melt solid thresholds. study highlights importance considering minor design differences predict future volumes runoff accurately.

Sensitivity of glacier runoff projections to baseline climate data in the Indus River basin

Quantifying the contribution of glacier runoff to water resources is particularly important in regions such as High Mountain Asia, where glaciers provide a large percentage of seasonal river discharge and support large populations downstream. In remote areas, direct field measurements of glacier melt rates are difficult to acquire and rarely observed, so hydro-glaciological modeling and remote ...

Sensitivity of Greenland ice sheet projections to model formulations

Physically based projections of the Greenland ice sheet contribution to future sea-level change are subject to uncertainties of the atmospheric and oceanic climatic forcing and to the formulations within the ice flow model itself. Here a higher-order, three-dimensional thermomechanical ice flow model is used, initialized to the present-day geometry. The forcing comes from a high-resolution regi...

Sensitivity of Calibration to Principal Point Position

A common practice when carrying out self-calibration of a camera from one or more views is to start with a guess at the principal point. The general belief is that inaccuracies in the estimation of the principal point do not have a significant effect on the other calibration parameters. It is the purpose of this paper to refute that belief. Indeed, it is demonstrated that the determination of t...
